Carlos Sainz is disappointed with sixth place in Jeddah – after the finish he said he was counting on a more competitive car in the race. Charles Leclerc finished seventh and agreed with his partner that Ferrari still has a lot of work to do to improve the car.
Carlo Sainz (6th): “Before the start we waited for a better race pace, we were sure we could match the pace of Mercedes and Aston Martin, but we were behind.
After a race like that, we have something to work on. First of all – above the speed at the end of the segment, the tires deteriorated too quickly today. We are inferior to the leaders in speed. It’s hard to get good results when you’re sixth and seventh in the last stint and you’re falling further behind the competition every lap.”
Charles Leclerc (7th): “I don’t know if the Mercedes drivers were out of reach for us. When I got close to Carlos at 1.2 seconds I couldn’t close the gap – the difference in speed between us wasn’t enough for this. I made a little mistake when I was behind Carlos in the DRS zone, let him go and after that I couldn’t do anything.
I don’t think it was possible to get more out of the car today. We need to add speed on the straights as well as speed in the corners. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”
