Max Verstappen led three practice sessions in Jeddah, but was out of contention in qualifying due to a transmission problem and his teammate Sergio Perez took pole position. On Sky Sports F1, team principal Christian Horner commented on the situation.
Christian Horner: “Apparently there was a problem with the driveshaft, but we have to disassemble the car to understand what happened. It’s a pity Max didn’t finish qualifying, his lap in the first session would have been enough for fourth place at the start, but we have a fast car and I have no doubt he’ll pick himself up again tomorrow.
Before the session we saw no signs of a possible refusal, it happened suddenly – and we have to make sure that nothing like this happens again tomorrow.
Sergio put in a great lap in the last session, the first attempt was enough for him – and I’m glad he took the first pole of the season today.
The race will be difficult, on this track it is important to stay out of trouble. We will see a lot of battle, a lot of overtaking. I’m sure the fans will enjoy the race. Sergio has a great chance to take her to victory. Of course we will choose a different strategy for our riders, because they will have to solve other problems.
