In 2020, streaming service Netflix announced plans to make a documentary about the career of three-time world champion Ayrton Senna. The series follows the life of a Brazilian racing driver from his move to the UK in 1981 to compete in Formula 1600 to his fatal crash in Imola in 1994.
Last year, the director of the project was found – he became Visento Amorim, and today the actor who will play the racer has been named. They became 29-year-old resident of Rio de Janeiro Gabriel Leone.
For Leone, this will not be the first film work that has to do with motorsport. A film about the life of Enzo Ferrari will be released in 2023, in which Gabriel plays the Spanish Formula 1 driver Alfonso de Portago.
Initially, the series about Ayrton Senna’s career was intended to consist of eight episodes, but Netflix later reduced that to six episodes.
