Porsche has abandoned plans to enter Formula 1 in 2026.
According to The Race, the German carmaker remains interested in entering the championship, but has no plans to partner with any of the teams in the medium term. Porsche will focus on ongoing sports programs, including a factory team in Formula E and a return to Le Mans as part of the 963 Hypercar project.
The decision to withdraw from Formula 1 in 2026 comes after cooperation talks with Red Bull Racing and McLaren came to nothing. The idea to set up a team from scratch at Porsche was abandoned due to high financial costs.
However, parent group Volkswagen will be represented in Formula 1 in 2026 through Audi, which has already bought a 25% stake in the Sauber Group and plans to increase its stake to 75%.
