Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes his team can close the gap on leading Red Bull Racing. After the race in Jeddah, Toto expressed the opinion that the current joining of forces is not final.
Toto Wolff: “We didn’t have much time to evaluate why Red Bull has such an advantage, because it was important for our team to give back our own identity, which we did. Now we have to take the second step and understand how to improve the car to regain the gap. Already as part of this process we will study rivals’ cars to understand what approach they are taking and what we have missed.
Behind only two races of the season. Can the difference in speed be considered objective? No, we don’t think so. First, the team will make every effort, and only then will we evaluate the joining of forces.
Last year we managed to clear a considerable backlog with a machine that was building up considerably. In the end we closed the gap and won the race. Moreover, we are now striving.”
