Former team boss Eddie Jordan believes Sergio Perez only won the race in Jeddah because he was allowed to…
Eddie Jordan: “There is no doubt that Max Verstappen would have won the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in a normal situation. I think they had an agreement that would allow Sergio Perez to win the race if he takes pole and leads the whole distance.
What would the team look like if they didn’t let Perez win? If I were Sergio I wouldn’t miss Verstappen. I think it was decided in advance in the team that if Verstappen comes second, and Perez goes first at that point, they let him win.
I was not surprised to hear Verstappen complain about the ride. If you have a driving problem with 15 laps to go, it just breaks. And you heard the engineers tell Verstappen that the car was fine, that everything was under control. I think it was just a signal.
Maybe I’m trying to look behind the scenes, but I think without this arrangement Verstappen would have won the race.”
