Information came out late last year that the Jeddah circuit would host the first race of the 2024 season – tentatively the first weekend in March was said. Such a schedule will help prevent the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from coinciding with Ramadan, which starts on March 10 next year and lasts until early April.
However, the promoter of the Jeddah stage, Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Faysal, said the final decision on the date of next season’s race has not yet been made. If Saudi Arabia fails to secure the right to open the season, the promoters will ask Formula 1 to postpone the stage until autumn 2024.
“Nothing has been decided yet, but I hope we can solve this problem soon,” said Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al Faisal. – Difficulties are associated with Ramadan, the dates of which are shifted by 10-11 days every year. Before Ramadan, we or Bahrain will run the race. After that – in April and May – the weather gets too hot.
March is the last month that we have nice weather. We will discuss this with the FOM and the teams in order to reach a decision. If it is not possible to organize the race in March, then it will have to be postponed to October or later, when the weather in our region starts to improve.”
