Sergio Perez’s victory in Monaco allowed the Mexican rider to close the gap in the individual classification of partner Max Verstappen to fifteen points. Former Formula 1 driver Johnny Herbert believes Perez has found a common language with the team, which will narrow the gap between him and Max.
Johnny Herbert: “Sergio is getting closer to Max in terms of speed – he joined the team brilliantly. He’s doing a great job, we saw that in Monaco. Apparently he’s matured – it’s not only great for Sergio himself, but also for the team, which aspires to win the Constructors’ Championship.
The way Sergio changed his approach to racing… I think young drivers who want to move from karting to Formula 1 should take a cue from him. Sergio has found his own way of working, which makes him stronger.
Formula 1 goes to Azerbaijan – last year Perez won that race and overall was on the podium three times on that track. If I’m not mistaken, only Sebastian Vettel can boast of comparable performance in Baku. My point is that Sergio will be on track where he feels comfortable, so he will be able to demonstrate his speed again.”
