Vasser: You can’t say everything is bad in general

Frederic Wasser, on the one hand, cannot but admit that Ferrari is not meeting expectations at the start of the season, on the other hand, he thinks that it is not worth dramatizing the situation, but that we must continue to cooperate with concentration, but remain calm .

In the first two stages of the season, Charles Leclerc took part in the battle for pole position in qualifying, but in the race the Ferrari cars were clearly inferior not only to Red Bull, but also to Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin. And in Jeddah, the Mercedes duo was also faster than the Scuderia, although George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were helped by the fact that Leclerc lost 10 positions due to an engine change and started 12th.

“In this situation we have to think about the team and how to rectify the situation, but at the same time we have to remain calm,” Vasser, who only led the Italian team at the beginning of January, quoted the championship’s official website. “You can’t say everything is bad in general. In Saudi Arabia we were able to make some improvements compared to Bahrain, at least in one quick lap.

Also in this respect we were able to slightly increase the lead over rivals – not from Red Bull, but from Aston Martin and Mercedes. I think the problems had more to do with race pace on hard rubber than with other factors.

If we keep going, I don’t rule out that Red Bull Racing can catch up. But to think about the backlog, whether we can reduce it, etc. now wrong. We must concentrate on our own tasks, we know what our weaknesses are – they must be corrected.

When we take a noticeable step forward, we see what we can achieve. And if we now consider what we could achieve by modernizing the car, this will only aggravate the situation.

We know we have to improve and we know we have a lot of work ahead of us. Make no mistake, the next morning after the race I was in my office working like crazy. We will prepare some small innovations for the next race weekend, but to be honest I don’t think we can reveal the potential of the car.

Our biggest problem today is that we are not yet able to work as efficiently as possible every day of the weekend. We can’t use 100% of SF-23’s potential in every session. Therefore, before discussing the effectiveness of new products, we must first pay maximum attention to this issue.
