Alpine sporting director Alan Permain praised the team’s results in the opening races of the season. The British specialist noted that the gap to rivals Ferrari and Mercedes has narrowed compared to last year, but the current form does not suit the team.
Alan Permain «I believe our team is closer to Ferrari and Mercedes than last year. We haven’t done a detailed analysis yet, but I have no doubt that we are closer to Ferrari, because last season they were fighting for victories at this stage of the championship.
Our goal is to get closer to third, not fifth. Maybe so, because if you take Mercedes for the third team in terms of speed, we’re closer to them than last year. However, Alpine is not where we want to be and Aston Martin’s progress has taken everyone by surprise.
We have to keep working hard and preparing new products that increase the downforce of the car, and we have to keep moving forward. Last year we released a lot of updates – this approach worked great.
We have excellent data correlation, so we are confident that all the updates the team is preparing will make the car better. It’s just important to progress faster than your opponents.”
