Dave Robson: The settings depend on the willingness to take risks

The last time points were achieved in Baku at Williams in 2018, it will not be easy to repeat this feat next weekend…

Dave RobsonChief Race Engineer: “The streets of Baku are a very different challenge to Monaco, and while this circuit also has some very narrow and slow sections, they are combined with long straights and fast corners.

When tuning a car it’s tempting to significantly reduce the level of downforce and drag, but the decision depends on the degree of risk the riders are willing to take – this will become apparent during practice.

As in Monaco, Pirelli will provide us with the softest compounds, which should be suitable for Baku if no granulation occurs. Slippery road surfaces can make it harder for the tires to warm up, but the long lap makes up for it.”

Nicholas Latific: “The race in Baku always turns out to be interesting. We are in front of a fast street circuit with long straights and lots of 90 degree turns that make it difficult to find the settings. But if you find the right compromise, the car will be fast in qualifying as well as in the race.

Long straights and DRS zones will spice up the fight. I hope we have a good weekend and take advantage of every opportunity.”

Alex Albon: “I really like the Baku track, where you can overtake and fight. This phase has developed successfully for me in recent years. Although this is an urban track, it is completely different from Monaco.

Races in Baku are always unpredictable, which can help us, and this track is suitable for our car. On Friday you have to work hard in training to get a good result on Sunday.”
