Charles Leclerc won qualifying in Melbourne but admitted such a result came as a surprise to him.
Charles Leclerc: “I’m more than happy because we’ve always had problems on this track – I don’t know, maybe it doesn’t suit me very well. But this weekend we did our best, although all three practices were a bit chaotic for me, and only a few individual circles were not bad.
But in the final of the qualifier we managed to put everything together – and everything worked out! It was quite comfortable to drive and I am very happy to start from pole position tomorrow.
Talking about tomorrow’s race, the Red Bull was very fast on long series of circles in practice two, but to be honest, our pace in qualifying surprised us. Tomorrow events can develop according to any scenario, but the most important thing is to start well and try to maintain the first position.”
