Saturday at Albert Park proved extremely unlucky for Aston Martin. Both riders had an accident in the morning practice. The mechanics repaired Stroll’s car already in the middle of the first part of qualifying and Vettel’s car remained in the pits. But Lance had another accident, the session was interrupted by red flags, this break allowed Sebastian’s mechanics to finish work on his car – and he left.
Sebastian Vettel (18th): “Our guys did a fantastic job today restoring both cars for qualifying. They prepared Lance’s car and then worked on my car with two teams. 18th place is not the best result, but today it has become a small miracle.
So far it’s not going well, but our car has potential – and we’re doing everything we can to get more out of it. I hope the race goes without incident and that we can learn a lot.”
Lance Walk (didn’t show the time): “Terrible day. Most of all I am grateful to the team for the hard work. It was not easy to get the car ready for qualifying, but they managed it.
Too bad there was an unpleasant incident with Nicholas Latifi in the first part of qualifying. It happened in a narrow section where the track veers to the right – and I was following the bend, when Nicholas suddenly accelerated at the last minute and contact was made.
I want to forget such a day as soon as possible, but we will gather our strength and tomorrow we will take every chance to win back.
