Last week we wrote about Craig Pollock’s new Formula 1 project. He wasn’t ready to comment on it then, but today he gave some details in an interview with CNN.
Craig Pollock “In Formula 1 you can’t hide anything and you have to be very careful when you talk to anyone. But I have to admit: yes, it’s true, we did register with the FIA.
We have been working on the project of creating a new Formula 1 team for almost four years, and the essence of our concept is that such a team should be 50% men and 50% women.
With an existing Formula 1 team this would be extremely difficult to do, so it’s easier to create a new team from scratch. Of course it would be great if one of her cars could be driven by a driver, but the reality is that she has to score a certain number of points to do so, only then can she get the FIA Super License.
I can’t promise we’ll get it right away, but we’re following the success of women in motorsport very closely, and I still hope so. But I want everyone to understand: It’s not just about the racers. In such a team, women should work at all levels, up to the management of the company.
We are currently in intensive talks with one of the countries of the Persian Gulf. While I can’t talk about it and reveal all the cards, it will happen very soon. I just hope everything works out, because a project like that costs a lot of money.
But it will be the first Formula 1 team based outside Europe. It should be created entirely in one of the countries of the Persian Gulf, our goal is exactly this, and this is a long-term project. We want to create conditions for women to work at the highest level in motorsport.”
