Jack Doohan is in his second year with Alpine F1 as a reserve driver, is a student at the Alpine Academy and makes a regular appearance at the team’s base in Enstone. An important event awaits him this weekend: the first Formula 2 race will be held in his home country of Australia, where he will spend his second season as part of the British Virtuosi Racing team.
In F2 he wears number 14, so the Alpine F1 press office decided to ask him 14 questions.
Q: What would you recommend to someone visiting Australia?
Jack Duane: I think we should settle in a hotel or rent somewhere closer to the beach, wear shorts, not leave the cafe and generally relax completely. The real Australian atmosphere is just in such cafes, which serve visitors in beachwear.
Such a laid-back lifestyle is quite typical for Australia, but that is not the case in Melbourne or other major cities.
Q: How many languages do you speak?
Jack Duane: Three. English, Australian vernacular and sarcasm.
Q: What is your favorite song to sing in karaoke?
Jack Duane: Lose yourself in Eminem’s repertoire.
Q: Do you have a favorite movie or series?
Jack Duane: At the moment I like Creed 3 the most, and from the series I prefer Outer Banks filmed by Netflix.
Question: If you could invite three people to dinner – whether they are alive or living in the past – who would they be?
Jack Duane: Muhammad Ali, Warren Buffett and Ayrton Senna.
Q: What is your favorite dish?
Jack Duane: Pasta with tomatoes and basil and a good chicken schnitzel.
Q: What issues are really important to you?
Jack Duane: Mental health issues, so through my Doohan OK brand, I want to raise awareness about them and do more to solve them. I also want to be a philanthropist to raise money for food and clean water for Africa.
Q: Which of your character traits do you like best?
Jack Duane: I am that I am. I try to be myself in all circumstances. I’m not trying to be better than I really am.
Question: In which city would you like to speak from those where the race has not yet taken place?
Jack Duane: I’m torn between New York and Tokyo, but I really like Japanese urban culture. So I would like to get to the start of the race in Tokyo.
Question: Do you use instant messengers more often or do you call more often?
Jack Duane: Honestly, I actively use both. However, my phone is off almost all the time, so sometimes I forget to respond to someone’s messages. But I always pick up the phone when someone calls.
Q: What do you think the fans don’t know about you but would be surprised if they found out?
Jack Duane: In school I loved to draw, studied fine arts and I am quite good at drawing.
Question: What is your favorite song?
Jack Duane: Nathan (varner road) Fred Again project.
Q: Do you miss Australia when you’re away from home?
Jack Duane: I miss surfing, my family and my German Shepherd Nico. In August or September we will get a few more sheepdogs.
Q: If you were to choose a partner from all the riders who are now or have been in the past, who would they be?
Jack Duane: Brock Fin is one of my best friends, we went karting together.
