Aston Martin team boss Mike Krak said he was tempted to call Sebastian Vettel when Lance Stroll had an accident while cycling before the start of the season.
Mike Krak: “The temptation was great. We were ready and not just because we respected Sebastian’s decision to retire. I think it would be wrong to even ask about such a possibility. I didn’t want to put him in an awkward position.
After the podium in Bahrain, Sebastian congratulated us – he is a true gentleman. I wrote to him: “This is also your merit.” He has helped us tremendously over the past two years. Vettel is happy with his decision to step down. He’s comfortable. He has no regrets, he is not sad, nothing of the sort. He knew exactly what he wanted when he decided to leave.
The respect between him and the team, but also between us personally, once again proves his congratulations. It’s very, very valuable to us and I’ve passed it on to the whole team.”
