Niko Hulkenberg: Steiner isn’t swearing at me yet

Nico Hulkenberg thinks the season start is going relatively well for him, although there are no points on his account yet. However, German driver Haas has no doubts that he will do better in the future.

Nico Hulkenberg: “Melbourne is a great city, Albert Park has a great track and I remember always having a good time here and often earning points. I’m already looking forward to studying a slightly updated, faster setup of the bezel over the course of tomorrow’s practice.

So far I’ve only done a few laps on the simulator and I can say that the track has become more organic and faster as most of the corners here have to be taken at medium and high speeds.

The season is going well for me, although it is clear that it has only just begun. I haven’t earned any points yet, but I feel like I’ve made good progress in the first few races. Obviously on this championship of the season I’m learning a lot of new information because I’ve missed so much. Therefore, I am generally satisfied and I am confident that our business will improve in the future. And Günther Steiner isn’t calling me names yet.”

When asked Niko what he thought of Stefano Domenicali’s idea to change the race weekend by training less, he replied that there could be different opinions: “I think everyone has their own preferences. I think the amount of training is now sufficient.

True, when I played in the youth series, at that time I liked that in Formula 2 training lasts only half an hour, and immediately after that we went to qualifying. But since different opinions can be expressed, it is likely that the discussion on this topic will drag on.

I don’t know what the ideal weekend schedule would be. I don’t really think about this topic because our schedule is what it is: we come to the Grand Prix and go into this rhythm. Since I started racing in Formula 1 in 2010, there have always been three practice sessions. Now they have become shorter, and this may not be bad.

I think the schedule for the weekend is fine, because everything is on the rise: Friday is the training day, Saturday there are more important events, and the tension builds, and the peak falls on Sunday, this is the most important day. So personally I wouldn’t want anything to change.”
