Last year Charles Leclerc confidently won the Australian Grand Prix, but in 2023 the Ferrari driver does not expect to compete for first place in Melbourne. Before the start of the weekend, the Monegask suggested that the car’s speed would be about the same as in the first two races.
Charles Leclerc: “I have fond memories of last year’s race, but now we came to Melbourne in a very different form. I think it’s pretty clear that our pace isn’t as fast as last year, but the team is working hard to get back on top.
We are very motivated, but don’t expect miracles this weekend. However, then there will be a three-week break, which we will try to use as much as possible to prepare updates to the machine as soon as possible.
I believe we were fast in qualifying at the start of the season, so we need to focus on speed in races where our car reacts very sharply to changes. When the conditions are right, we manage to squeeze the maximum out of it, but as soon as the car gets a little heavier, our limitations start to show. The team needs to focus on solving these problems.
I think we will be quite close to the leaders in qualifying. At least I hope so. However, the picture per race will be the same as in the previous stages.
