For Ferrari, the season started badly, after two Grands Prix the team is fourth in the constructors’ championship – Carlos Sainz spoke in Melbourne on Thursday about the characteristics of the SF-23 that can no longer reach.
Carlos Sainz: “A detailed analysis of the situation after the last two Grands Prix showed that there are no fundamental problems with the car, but it behaves nervously and unpredictably on the track – literally destroying rubber.
We need to find a way to somehow calm the car down, make it more manageable in the race. But the problem is clear. We know about it on the track, it’s being worked on at Maranello. Ferrari has the resources to find a solution. The main thing is that everyone moves in the same direction, and then, if not in a short time, but in the medium term, we will solve everything.
I hope that the novelties will allow us to fight with rivals, because now our options are very limited. In the turbulent airflow behind another car, the SF-23 behaves even more nervously, and high tire wear does not allow a long attack. By closing these weaknesses, we can act more flexibly.
Honestly, I miss the car from last year when we knew it was capable of winning races and qualifying. This year the feel of the car is a little different, especially when racing. I don’t have any particular driving problems, I just haven’t done a single good qualifying lap yet. In the races I squeezed everything the car is capable of. Unfortunately, that is not so much at the moment.”
