Lewis Hamilton is realistic about the prospects for Mercedes this weekend, so he frankly admitted that he was hoping for rain. According to him, the events will develop more interesting for him and his team in difficult weather conditions.
Lewis Hamilton «If you remember the previous race, the result can be considered quite good in my opinion, as we didn’t have enough speed in qualifying. Of course George Russell did a great job every day of the weekend, but with his car everything was as it should be and I wasn’t completely happy with the balance.
However, in Jeddah we managed to take 4th and 5th place and the team is second in the Constructors’ Championship (Mercedes shares 2nd and 3rd with Aston Martin F1 – both have 38 points). We managed to stay ahead of Ferrari, although the Scuderia clearly had a more efficient car at the start of the season.
At the base of the team, everyone continues to work hard to solve the problems we encountered, but they cannot be solved in one weekend – it takes several races. I’d like it to happen as soon as possible, but this weekend I’m honestly hoping for rain. Then events will develop according to a more interesting scenario for us.
I just hope that we don’t lose a full second on the leaders and that we find the right settings. There is a very positive atmosphere in the team and although everyone understands that we are not yet at the level we want to be, the steps that have already been taken are encouraging for everyone.
Last year we managed to regain the gap, which means we can handle this task even better this season. If we talk about me, then I try to get stable results, between races I train intensively to be in good shape. So that the moment I feel that the machine is finally working as it should, I would be ready to really attack. Although I don’t know when it will happen – in two, ten or twenty races.”
