During a press conference on Friday, Alpine team principal Otmar Szafnauer confirmed he was in talks with Daniel Ricciardo about a contract for the 2023 season…
Otmar Safnauer: “We discussed a contract with Daniel, but chose Pierre Gasly when he became available. At the moment Ricciardo has a reserve driver contract with Red Bull, but he is a fantastic driver, he is still young and I wouldn’t be surprised if he returns to racing in the future.”
They asked about a possible contract with Ricciardo and the head of Haas F1, Gunther Steiner, who sat next to him…
Gunter Steiner: “We have just updated the composition, now it would be premature to talk about some kind of reshuffling in 2024 – let’s see how everything goes for our pilots.
Maybe I’ll talk to him at some point, but I can’t promise anything – if our two riders are doing great, there’s no point in changing them.
I think a lot of people want to talk to Daniel about next season. Maybe he wants to return himself, then there are certainly options.
