Before the start of the weekend in Melbourne, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff summed up the results of the last race and talked about the stage ahead…
Toto Wolff: “The progress we have made in Saudi Arabia is encouraging. We got the most out of the machine and earned a lot of points. More importantly, we continued to learn and understand the features of W14, the direction of its further development. At the base, employees work hard to convert the acquired knowledge into results.
The data we see on the base is encouraging, but now it’s important to move forward one step at a time and not get too carried away with success until the increase in the car’s efficiency has a clear impact on the lap time. The competition behind Red Bull is very tight, a few tenths can seriously affect the number of points scored. We are still seriously behind the front runners, but we really want to get closer.
We look forward to Australia. This country has a rich racing tradition and a truly passionate fan base. Albert Park has a unique circuit to which we have to adapt the W14. As always, we will strive to exploit the machine’s potential to earn as many points as possible. Although we are not in the shape we strive for, this does not stop us from giving everything.”
