Safnauer: The goal is to score twice with two cars

In Monaco, the Alpine team earned six points, bringing it close to Alfa Romeo in the Constructors’ Championship – and will continue to attack in Baku…

Q: How is the team preparing for the Baku race?
Otmar Safnauer: The last few weeks have been very intense – two rounds in a row in Barcelona and Monaco. Another double weekend ahead, now on two different continents, two unique – and difficult circuits in their own way.

From its first appearance on the calendar, the race in Baku has always been unpredictable. That is the nature of this circuit, where you can overtake, and allow the justified risk
achieve a good result.

For this weekend, we have prepared several aerodynamic solutions specially adapted for the Baku stage, after which we will launch an update program in preparation for the 2022 season.

Q: What are the biggest difficulties of the job?
Otmar Safnauer: In Baku it is difficult to find the optimal settings – on the one hand you want to reach a high maximum speed to fight rivals on long straights, but there are also a few slow corners – it will be difficult to to find balance.

Our aim is to qualify as close to the frontline as possible and to be careful during the race and take every opportunity to regain positions.

Q: What conclusions did you draw after the Monaco Grand Prix?
Otmar Safnauer: The track in Monaco didn’t quite suit our car, we struggled, but the weekend taught us a lot. We use this experience to optimize the car’s performance on different types of tracks.

We qualified well, both riders were able to get into the top six. We need to have the perfect weekend, Friday to Sunday, to show our true potential. We are looking forward to the weekend. Our goal is to score points twice with two cars in this series of double races.
