In Australia, Alex Albon not only managed to reach the final of qualifying, but also managed to stay ahead of the Alpine and Haas racers, calling this performance a small win. Logan Sargent did not perform at the level of an experienced partner, but American debutant Williams hopes to bounce back in the race.
Alex Albon (8th): “Only the drivers in the fastest cars go ahead of us, but we start right behind them, which is great.
In Jeddah we had problems with the rubber, although the car was capable of a faster pace as we were left feeling frustrated after the previous stage. Everything went well after that until qualifying, where we couldn’t achieve effective tire operation.
But this weekend we came up with an action plan, which allowed us to find an approach for rubber, and it seems that everything worked out. Qualifying went smoothly, mistakes were avoided, so now we can fight normally.
The FW45 is capable of a good pace, we understood that and we really managed to improve, that’s why we showed the 8th result. Knowing you have a chance every weekend always gives extra motivation.
There is a good atmosphere in the team, everyone is trying to stay at a good level, we are working intensively on technical innovations, so we will see how it goes. But reaching the qualifying final is like a small victory.”
Logan Sargent (18th): “Qualifying wasn’t very smooth, I couldn’t squeeze the last few tenths out of the car. At first it seemed to me that everything was going well, I gradually added, but on the last attempt I made a mistake on the 3rd sector.
But I didn’t do many laps this weekend because of electrical problems in first practice because I also missed second practice yesterday. Nevertheless, we got the chance to fight for the second part of qualifying.
It’s hard to say what to expect from the car tomorrow as we haven’t done any long stretches of laps, but normally the FW45 is capable of good race pace, especially on the straights, and we know we’re very good be able to take on opponents who start next to us.
The challenge for tomorrow is to do everything perfectly, start well, show a good pace and try to regain a few positions.
