Yuki Tsunoda and Nick de Vries set the twelfth and fifteenth fastest times respectively in qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. Both AlphaTauri drivers hope the car’s speed will bring points in the race.
Yuki Tsunoda (12th): “Qualifying went well – we showed good pace and got the most out of the car. I finished the first session in 15th, but with each lap I managed to catch up.
In the second session we planned two fast laps, but unfortunately, due to the need to go to the weigh-in, I couldn’t do the second one. Considering I only got one fastest lap I’m happy with the result and the fact that the team was able to add.
I’m looking forward to the match. We haven’t been able to work on long runs in practice, but we will try to get the most out of the car and earn points.
Nick deVries (15th): “Good qualification – it’s nice to get to the second part, given that we’ve brought new items to this stage. It wasn’t easy because of the changeable conditions, especially warming up the tires was a challenge – on the last attempt in the second part I couldn’t adapt and do what I needed.
I’m a little disappointed that I couldn’t get the most out of the tires on the last try, but overall I’m happy with qualifying. We didn’t have much opportunity to work on a long run of laps this weekend, but I’m looking forward to the race and hoping to score points.”
