Binotto: Ferrari has no goal to win title in 2022

In 2022, for the first time in years, Ferrari managed to build a competitive car that can not only win races, but also compete for the title. However, team boss Mattia Binotto outlined Ferrari’s goals for the season as “to be competitive, not win the title”.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Binotto described the team’s priorities: “We have made it our mission to be competitive by 2022. So our aim is to be competitive, not to win a title. be wrong to say, “Let’s try to win the championship because we are so competitive.”

Having a fast car is one thing, becoming a champion is quite another. There is no doubt that we will try to start a new winning cycle and become champions, not just once, but to gain a foothold in the first positions for a long time. However, I think we still need time for this.

Our mentality is still to improve and become a team that can fight for the title. However, this does not mean that we will not try to win the championship, but we are well aware that this is not the same as being competitive.

The team has ambition. Everyone who works at Ferrari has them and our employees don’t need to be reminded of them. It’s more important to keep everyone on the team focused on the process of continuous improvement and see every race as an opportunity to learn and get better.

It is important to stay focused on each specific race and not think about the situation in the championship – this is a task on a completely different level. On the one hand I am taking some of the pressure off the team with these words and on the other it would be wrong for management to change the goals we have set for the team.”
