Haas F1 protest rejected, race results confirmed

We wrote that after the finish of the Australian Grand Prix, the Haas F1 team protested the results of the race, claiming a breach of procedure. Protest rejected. The result of the race is confirmed.

Haas F1 claimed to have violated paragraph 57.3 of the sporting regulations, which states: “In all cases, the starting order is determined by the last point at which it is possible to determine the position of all cars.”

Haas F1 argued that the restart order would be determined by the cars crossing the second line of the safety car shortly before the race was stopped by red flags. At that time, Niko Hulkenberg was fourth – and the team decided to compete for this result.

But the FIA considered the last reliable point to be the drivers’ alignment before that – on the second restart, because after passing the second line of the safety car, another incident occurred.

For the third restart, the race direction determined that the last point from which the position of all cars could be determined corresponds to the moment when the starting grid was formed before the second restart, taking into account the data available at the time, the relative positions of the cars and incidents on the track.

“Given the circumstances, based on what we have heard from the FIA and from Haas, we believe that the race director acted correctly and therefore reject the protest,” the stewards said in a statement.
