In Melbourne, Fernando Alonso finished third for the third time this season. The Aston Martin driver is satisfied with the result, but thinks it is time to think about a higher podium finish.
Fernando Alonso: “Today we experienced a real emotional rollercoaster. A lot happened in the first laps as well as in the last half hour before the finish. It was difficult to understand what was happening, but the race was good for us in terms of speed.
Mercedes were really fast today and did a great job – I couldn’t keep up with their speed and get close enough so we have third.
The first red flags helped us a bit – before them George Russell and Carlos Sainz pitted, which gave me two positions back. The second red flags probably didn’t help because then I became a participant in the incident on the restart. I was lucky and got the green light with the checkered flag. Third and fourth place is a great result for the team.
I already have three third places. I think it’s time to try to take a higher position. At least second place.
