Lewis Hamilton finished second in Melbourne, his first podium of the season…
Lewis Hamilton (2nd): “What a crazy race! This is my best week this year.
Unfortunately, George was very unlucky. We have to pay attention to reliability. And while our cars are generally very reliable, it’s a pity that this happened to him today.
Earning points is great fun. Honestly, I didn’t expect second place. I still don’t feel very comfortable in this car, I don’t feel connected to it. I’m trying to fly as best I can, I’m working my hardest to make that connection, but it will take time.
Great result! We are seriously behind Red Bull in speed on a straight line, but today we were on the same level as Aston Martin, which is just great at this stage of the season. We have to keep working. Many thanks to all the personnel at our base, let’s keep fighting. Closing the gap will be difficult, but not impossible.”
George Russell (retirement): “We did everything right this weekend. We had a great qualifying, today I had a perfect start, I had a good first lap. All three days I felt comfortable and confident in the car. I don’t see any reason that could keep me from fighting for the win today, so I’m very disappointed with the retirement.
At the entrance to the fast turn ten I felt something was wrong with the car and after three corners it stopped. It’s not my day.
We still have a lot of work to do to catch up with Red Bull, but this weekend left a positive feeling. We have made progress with each trip to the track and achieved the highest possible result. I am proud of the work we have done.”
