Krak: Alonso shows incredible consistency

In Melbourne, Fernando Alonso took the podium for a third consecutive time, although the end of the race was somewhat overshadowed by a track collision between two Spaniards when Carlos Sainz made a risky attack on the restart. which he ultimately received both a 5-second penalty and two super license penalties.

As the Madrid newspaper AS writes, its reporter spoke to both of them after the finish and did not hear any angry reaction: Alonso even regrets that Sainz has been punished so severely.

Fernando only managed to climb the podium three times in a row during the years of the championship, ie in 2005 and 2006. It is more than three weeks before the stage in Baku and at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix it will become clear whether Aston Martin will n high level can remain, because that requires not only a fast car, but also the ability to upgrade it at the same pace as the strongest teams finalize the equipment.

“We were very competitive in Bahrain, we did well in Jeddah, but in Australia we already had real problems,” said Silverstone team principal Mike Krak. – If we look at all available data, we see that in reality the difference in speed between the machines is minimal. A gust of wind or slight understeer can cause you to lose position.

This happens when the differences are very small, and in this situation we have to constantly give our 100%. The team solved its tasks on all three circuits and this gives confidence that we can be competitive everywhere, but to a different degree.

There is a race ahead in Baku, where there is a very long straight, and also in Monaco, where there are practically no straights. That is why after each Grand Prix one has to be more careful with the conclusions.

In any case, it seems undeniable that Fernando Alonso is indeed a great driver and that Aston Martin did the right thing by signing the 41-year-old Spaniard.

“Three stages? Yes, he should have won all three races! – Krak responded cheerfully to the question about the championship ambitions of the team and the new leader. – No, of course, it’s just a joke, but if someone had told me before the start of the season that we would be on the podium in all three races, I wouldn’t have believed it.

Fernando’s results confirm that Aston Martin is a true champion! He’s showing incredible consistency – look, this year he was ahead in all sessions, including training.

Alonso also spoke of the need to maintain a high pace of modernization after his finish in Melbourne: “An interesting phase of the season begins, when the teams finish the cars as quickly as possible. The first three races were held outside Europe and delivering technical innovations there is not easy, but now let’s see which teams can make the most progress.

The balance of power will change at all levels, but we don’t expect to be able to climb the podium all season long. So now we are so happy because we managed to finish in the top three in all three races.

But Aston Martin has to keep learning, the team has to develop all around, including off the track, because we are competing with Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari, and they are used to modernizing their cars at a faster pace. Therefore, our prospects in 2023 must be realistically estimated.”
