In the third stage of the season, Guanyu Zhou opened the scoring with earned points: In Melbourne, the Chinese Alfa Romeo driver took 9th place, although he started from the tail of the pack. After finishing the chaotic Australian Grand Prix, Zhou joined the F1 Nation podcast and shared his impressions.
Guanyu Zhou: “The mood is obviously great, because I managed to get to the front and earn points, even though I started from the penultimate row. The race was frenzied and erratic, but I managed to stay out of trouble and the reward points became a reward. Although it could have been more, I am still so happy that I got the first points.
Before the race I knew I would have to take risks because we were one of the few starting on soft tires so we planned to act aggressively. We had nothing to lose, we had to take risks and in the end our plan worked.
At the start, I first of all tried not to lock the brakes and find free space on the track, although there is no time to think at such moments.
In the beginning I tried to pay as much attention as possible to working with the clutch in order to drive off normally. Although the start of the race in Melbourne is always risky, I managed it and then acted quite calmly.
