Zach Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, is happy for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, as both his drivers scored points in Melbourne. At the same time, Brown is willing to admit that the MCL60 is not the most competitive car, but the team is preparing new items for the next leg, which will be held in Baku on the last weekend of April.
Zach Brown: “The race is crazy, although we were a bit lucky this time. But in Saudi Arabia, luck was not on our side, so we accept the result we managed to get in Melbourne. It is clear that we are not yet at the level we want to be, there is still a lot of work to do, but this is already something.
We are very happy for Oscar as the Australian weekend was doubly tiring for him, but now he can rest easy on the plane back to the UK. It’s great that both McLaren drivers managed to earn points, Lando in general managed to squeeze everything out of his car that he was capable of.
Both he and Oskar have done a great job, although it must be admitted that the MCL60 still lacks top speed. If we can increase that, it will be a little easier to overtake. Of course we will try to do it at the stage in Azerbaijan, and also to achieve more downforce.
But these are quite obvious tasks, although it is not a fact that the effectiveness of technical innovations will be fully manifested in Baku. Rather, it will happen on a different track. It’s hardly worth waiting for miracles, but we expect to take a step forward.
