Luca di Montezemolo: Ferrari needs a makeover

Former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo commented on the team’s results at the start of the season. In the first races, the Scuderia managed only 26 points and is inferior to the top three teams in terms of speed.

“The team’s results are like a knife in my wound,” shared Luca di Montezemolo on the Piazzapulita program on Italian TV channel La7. – Ferrari is the most important thing in my life, together with my family, because I gave the team 25 years. I am hurt and sorry to see such results. I don’t think we are talking about a temporary crisis – the team needs to be restructured and the best specialists are recruited.

Once I brought Jean Todt, Stefano Domenicali, Ross Brown, Rory Burn to the team. Later Michael Schumacher joined us. Then Ferrari was also in a serious crisis, but we were able to rebuild the team.

It is not enough to invite specialists of different nationalities. It is necessary to change the culture of the company in those areas where it is needed.”

Di Montezemolo slammed Ferrari director Benedetto Vigna for speaking about the “unprecedented speed” of the 2023 car during a presentation in February.

“The triumphant speeches during the presentation seemed wrong to me,” says Luca di Montezemolo. “I expected the new car to be an evolutionary development compared to last year.”
