Ragimov: We want to hold the race in June in the future

On Thursday, Baku Circuit Executive Director Arif Rahimov spoke about the intersection of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and Le Mans 24 Hours sessions and the future of the national stage…

Arif Rahimov: “The weekend schedule is made taking into account many factors – internal and external, including additional events on Saturday, especially Formula 2 races. And we have no real chance to change it.

The most important part of Le Mans is the start of the race. The most important part of Formula 1 qualifying is finishing. I think in our case the public can see both. I would be upset if the start at Le Mans coincided with the end of qualifying, but for us it coincides with the start.

In the future, we want to run the race in June. When the stage was held in April, it was not easy to prepare the track – it takes three months, we had to start in the winter. In addition, the weather in April this year left a lot to be desired – it was windy, cold and rainy. I don’t think we should take the risk because everyone wants to see full stands. We are happy with the June date and want to keep it.”
