At the end of October, Sergio Pérez will join other Formula 1 drivers in the Mexican Grand Prix, but this year the Mexican weekend program will include the local Supercopa MX touring car series, in which his father, Antonio Pérez, will performance.
Perez Sr. shared the news via social media.
“Together with Sergio I will race on October 27, 28 and 29 at the Grand Prix of Mexico City in the Supercopa MX championship races. This was made possible thanks to my friend Jeronimo de Iturba and the Alpha Racing team. I’m already looking forward to it, it’s going to be interesting! Antonio Perez wrote.
He is 63 years old and it was once he who instilled in Sergio a love for motorsport. In his youth, Antonio changed several professions, including working as a taxi driver and mechanic. At some point in his biography, he met Francisco Rodriguez del Fierro, the owner of an auto repair shop, who introduced him to people from the Mexican racing scene. Soon Perez Sr. started. to race himself and even won the national Marlboro Cup in 1987.
His sports career was interrupted after an injury sustained in one of the exhibition races, but he remained close to the world of motorsport, so both his sons, Antonio and Sergio, started karting at an early age.
And now, years later, he is back behind the wheel, and even during the race weekend in Mexico City, when Sergio Perez will drive the Formula 1 team’s car.
