Robin Frijns has announced his retirement from Audi after seven years as a factory driver with the German brand. During this time he was very successful in GT and DTM racing, taking many victories.
“All good things come to an end! – said the Dutchman on his pages in social networks. “I worked as an Audi Sport factory driver for seven years, but now it’s time to move on. I have no words to thank everyone for this glorious time.
I joined Audi Sport in 2015 and won the Blancpa GT Series that season. Two years later we won the Blancpain Sprint Championship, also with the Belgian WRT team, and soon after we celebrated victory in the 12 Hours of Bathurst.
My favorite part of three years of racing in the DTM with the latest Class 1 cars, my fondest memories are the first race for the ABT Motorsport team in my hometown of Assen.
At the end of my career with Audi last year we won the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, and this result naturally surprised us! Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!”
Frijns will continue to drive in electric Formula E for ABT Cupra, as well as endurance racing in the LMP2 class as part of the aforementioned Belgian WRT team, which will receive factory support from BMW next year and make the switch to the hypercar class .
Frijns was the last Audi driver to end his collaboration with the car manufacturer after Ingolstadt decided to change course and switch to Formula 1 instead of endurance racing. Dreis Vantour and Charles Werts.
