Two Spaniards, Fernando Alonso and Pedro de la Rosa, shared the secrets of the right start, on which success in Formula 1 largely depends. Alonso has been racing for Aston Martin F1 since this year and his compatriot, old friend and former racer is serving as the ambassador of the Silverstone team.
Pedro de la Rosa: “The most important thing at the start of the Grand Prix is to trust intuition. Once you release the clutch, you can stop thinking about what to do next.
But intuition can help you only if you constantly work out the starting procedure, conduct hundreds, if not thousands, of training sessions.
Fernando Alonso: “Key factors on the track are intuition and the ability to make last-minute decisions. You have to be sure what kind of cars are around you and how fast you have to go to get ahead of them or they will overtake you.
We should try to find at least the minimum space on the track at the entrance of the 1st turn or before the 2nd turn. But it is very difficult to predict the development of events and all decisions have to be made at the very last moment. With experience, the starts get better and you gain mastery.
