In Baku, Haas F1 boss Gunther Steiner spoke on Thursday about the aftermath of Mick Schumacher’s serious crash in Monaco…
Gunther Steiner: “Mick and I need to have a serious talk. We will soon run out of parts. We can’t keep ordering them. This is money down the drain. I want to make sure that nothing like this will happen in Baku.
The chassis is okay, now we are repairing it, but many of the external elements have been destroyed. The engine is also in order, but the gearbox has been written off. And many other parts are broken.
We have three chassis. Two main and one spare, but it’s not painted. If we have to use it in Baku, we just cover it with white paint.
Dallara worked around the clock to get us parts so we could perform. Yes, the problem is always the money you have to pay for it, but an even bigger problem is the production of so many parts. Dallara has no such abilities. They have one mould, such production takes time.
Ferrari has helped us with suspension elements – we are almost finished. But otherwise something has to happen with our budget: you can’t spend money that you don’t have.”
