Following BMW’s lead, the American company Cadillac presented its latest hypercar – such cars will debut next year in two championships simultaneously, the IMSA overseas series and the WEC, including the start of the Le Mans marathon.
As with the BMW M Hybrid V8, the Project GTP sports prototype is based on the Dallara chassis and Ganassi Racing will be working on these machines. By the way, Kevin Magnussen played for this team in the IMSA series last year.
“It is an honor for a legendary American brand like Cadillac to compete for the general classification at Le Mans,” said Laura Wonthrop Clauser, General Motors director of motorsports programs. “Our entire team is excited to build on Cadillac’s racing heritage by competing against the very best in international motorsport on the world’s toughest race track.”
A new 5.5-litre V8 engine has been developed for the Cadillac hypercar, integrated with a hybrid system common to all cars in this class.
Testing of the car will begin in the summer and its racing debut is scheduled for early next year – the Ganassi Racing team will put up such sporty prototypes at the start of the 24 Hours of Daytona marathon.
