The 2023 season started with the clear dominance of Red Bull Racing: the drivers of this team won all three Grands Prix and gave their team a winning double twice. This is already starting the conversation in the paddock that the regulations need to be adjusted yet again to level the forces of the championship participants for the sake of entertainment.
But Günther Steiner, head of Haas F1, thinks this should not happen.
“Sport must remain in the spotlight. Of course it is important that there is an element of show in Formula 1, but Red Bull’s superiority does not bother me and rivals will still be able to overtake them, he said. – I would say that the current regulation works quite effectively and cannot be changed again. Of course Red Bull has a certain advantage at the moment, but I don’t think it will stay that way for the next 20 races.
Not sure at all, because the rest will be able to catch up. I hope we can find out how Red Bull got such an advantage and that we can copy these solutions or develop something similar.
Everyone will put in a lot of effort and remember that the Red Bull team was penalized last year, and this season they will work less in the wind tunnel, so in theory they will not be able to make much progress.
In general, we’ll see. But this team did a great job. Of course you cannot criticize the current regulations if one works more efficiently than the other. In addition, it is unfair to change the rules when someone has gained an advantage.
The balance of power will change from stage to stage, some cars will be better on fast tracks, others on slower tracks, like Monaco. So the balance of power in the middle of the pack will continue to vary.”
After three stages of the championship, Red Bull Racing confidently leads the Constructors’ Championship with 123 points, Aston Martin is second with 65 points and Mercedes is third with 56 points. The Haas F1 team is currently in 7th place.
