1996 world champion Damon Hill, commenting on the situation at Mercedes on the F1 Nation podcast, said George Russell still has a lot to do to become a really serious asset to the team…
Damon Hill: “George needs a lot, a lot of work to become a valuable asset to the team. So far he’s doing great. He needs to prove himself and Lewis doesn’t have that need – the team knows they have Hamilton , who if he feels even the slightest chance will be back in top form and be able to race fantastically, they know George can do it too, but he has yet to prove it.
Lewis will handle the machine gradually. He’s probably thinking something along the lines of, “I’ll let you do all the hard work, George.” At the same time, Russell is director of the GPDA racing association, where he also has a lot of work. He takes on too much.”
