This year Daniel Ricciardo returned to Red Bull Racing as a reserve driver and said he regained his interest in racing as early as the first session on the simulator in Milton Keynes…
Daniel Ricciardo: “My first day in the Red Bull simulator this year was probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a simulator.
Before that, I had not driven the car for almost three months, the sensations turned out to be quite bright and fresh, I again found myself in an environment that evoked many pleasant memories. I felt a positive vibe. Simon who was my race engineer had a session with me, we laughed a lot. A good day.
The simulator is a working tool. You come to work, complete the task and leave. But I remember at the end of the session someone said, “That’s enough, you’ve done a lot of laps already,” and I replied, “No, no. One more circle. I’ll get through it even better.” And we started joking about the fact that now I can’t be pulled out from behind the wheel.
Everything used to be different. The older I got, the more I just wanted to race, without all the boring testing. I just enjoyed the race, and now I suddenly enjoyed working on the simulator.”
