On the eve of the Australian Grand Prix, McLaren announced a major reshuffle in the technical and organizational composition. Team leader Zach Brown stressed that the reshuffle was not a response to problems with the 2023 car, but the result of work that began last year.
“In early 2022 we had problems with the brake duct during testing, but the car itself was good,” Racingnews365 quoted Zach Brown as saying. “During the season we had problems with the riders, which caught everyone’s attention.
Deep down, though, I was much more concerned about the issues associated with the pace of machine modernization. In the second half of the season, we looked at where we started the season and where we finished, and compared our performance to the progress of our rivals.
We changed the team leader at the end of last year, but negotiations on this have already started. I gave Andrea Stella the mandate to make the changes the team needed and that’s exactly what he did. He had been on the team for many years, so he didn’t have to start all over again. Eventually, he came up with a real management model that was deemed appropriate in the team, and started implementing it.
Work continued for a while and our announcement of the reshuffle just coincided with the lackluster start to the season.
