Russell: We have to match the Grand Prix in geography

The director of the GPDA race association, Mercedes driver George Russell, would like to see a more balanced calendar, which he spoke about with Novak Djokovic a few days ago.

George offers an obvious idea – to link the Grand Prix geographically, which saves time. And the time in the next season, which will certainly consist of 24 Grands Prix, will be crucial.

George Russell: “A lot has been said about the calendar lately, but you’ll agree it’s weird to have a stage in the Middle East, then America, then Europe. I think the calendar will be optimized in the coming years. Most fans don’t care in what order the stages follow each other.

When determining the date of the Grand Prix, there are many restrictions associated with the climate, with certain events, with the availability of street tracks. But it is clear that the stage in Australia must take place alongside the race in the Middle East. As a result, everyone gets three or four extra days.”

Pre-season testing is expected to be held in Bahrain next year and the season will begin in Jeddah. The calendar for 2024 will be published after the summer break.
