Hyundai rally team driver Craig Breen has died during a private test ahead of the WRC World Championship in Croatia.
According to the local press, Brin’s car collided with its left side against a pole. His navigator James Fulton was not injured in the incident.
Craig Breen has competed in rally competition since 2009 and has been driving in the top class of the WRC since 2016. In total he has completed 81 rallies in the WRC and achieved eight podium finishes, most recently at the second round of the 2023 season in Sweden, where he finished second.
“Hyundai Motorsport is deeply saddened to confirm the death of Craig Breen in today’s crash during pre-rally testing in Croatia,” the team said in a statement. – Navigator James Fulton was not injured in the incident, which took place just after noon local time.
Hyundai Motorsport extends its sincere condolences to Craig’s family, friends and many fans.”
FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem offered his condolences: “On behalf of everyone at the FIA, I offer my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Craig Breen on his death in a private testing accident. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and the rally community.”
“Shocking news,” Valtteri Bottas wrote on social media. “Rest in peace, Craig Breen.”
