Mick Schumacher: I don’t consider this season to be the second

It is generally accepted that in the debut season the rider will be introduced to the slopes and the work of the team, gain experience and add it the following year. Mick Schumacher is in just such a situation, but there is no clear progress yet.

Ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Mick said he didn’t consider this season to be second as there was a lot of restarting to do after the rule changes and the switch to 18-inch tires.

Mick Schumacher: “The accident in Monaco is due to the fact that the track remained wet in some places. I went into turn 12 a little wider and made a small mistake in the chicane. On wet roads, the tires lost traction and the car started spinning. I tried to correct the situation, but she went the other way.

In fact, the accident was not serious. It is very unfortunate that the car was split into two parts and the team suffered serious damage. Now, of course, I have to think about it.

I have not lost faith in my abilities. If I had to play in Monaco again this weekend, it wouldn’t be a problem. This is what you learn in karting. You arrive at the track and pick up where you left off last time.

You should always measure the degree of risk, but we are trying to earn points, so we have to take risks. Maybe I still have a lot to learn in that area.

I don’t consider this season to be the second. The car has changed seriously, a lot had to be re-learned – we can’t use last year’s experience.
