With two laps to go in the Australian Grand Prix, the Alpine drivers collided and retired. In a column published on the championship’s official website on Friday, Pierre Gasly said the team has drawn conclusions from the incident.
Pierre Gasly: “First of all, I propose to evaluate the positive results of the weekend. We are happy that we have taken a step in the right direction. Seriously, this is a big enough move for the whole team.
I don’t want to talk much about the race. I was 98% happy with how it went, but unfortunately circumstances changed and we left the track empty handed. It’s always unpleasant to feel such a disappointment – we were fast and missed out on a good result at the very end. Of course it hurt.
After the race I didn’t really want to think about what happened – I just threw out my disappointment and tried to get over it as quickly as possible. Of course, the team discussed what happened and listed the results, which we keep to ourselves.
In the end, it’s important to take the speed shown as a starting point and understand how to get the most out of the car in Baku, where I intend to perform well. I am a person of positive thinking and always looking forward, not in the past. Australia is lagging behind and I am working hard to repeat the high speed in Baku and perform even better in the future.
In the next phase, we are waiting for a changed format of the weekend. There is no doubt that it will be interesting, but it is necessary to avoid problems from the very beginning so as not to waste time on the first training session. The first sprint of the season is coming up, and the first in Baku in general, so it will be very interesting.”
