Speaking to investors from Liberty Media, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali spoke of a full calendar that will soon have no room for historic circuits…
Stefano Domenicali: “The current calendar seems balanced to me. 24 stages – the optimal number, the races are held on different continents, we continue to explore the possibility of holding a Grand Prix in Africa.
The historical status of the tracks no longer matters. You can’t just live in the past. But they have the opportunity to move forward in the expectation of a successful future. Therefore, when negotiating with the so-called “historic Grand Prix”, we first want to understand their plans for the future.
Arrogance and confidence in renewing a contract just because you’ve been running races for 100 years is no longer enough. I think everyone now understands that we are not playing games. We say openly that if they want to stay on the calendar they have to do what we think is right for them and for Formula 1.
It is clear that the perception of these historical places has changed in recent years, they are well aware that Formula 1 has become different.
