In 2016, Kvyat turned down Ferrari’s contract offer.

At the beginning of 2016, Daniil Kvyat’s career was on the rise – he spent the second season with Red Bull Racing and climbed to the podium at the third stage in China. At the same time, the Russian racer received an offer to go to Ferrari to replace Kimi Raikkonen, but Kvyat turned it down and a month later lost his place in Red Bull Racing.

Daniil Kvyat: “I performed really well and just brought the team another podium [на Гран При Китая]. Shortly afterwards I was approached by Ferrari with an offer to replace Kimi. All negotiations took place behind the scenes.

Then I was in a difficult situation from a psychological point of view. At first Ferrari wanted me to drive for them, I even saw the contract and after a while I ended up at Toro Rosso. Suddenly things weren’t going as well as they could.”

After Red Bull moved Kvyat from the first team to Toro Rosso to make way for Max Verstappen, Daniil competed intermittently in Formula 1 until 2020. In 2023, Kvyat will continue his career in endurance racing.
