Ferrari president John Elkann said the Scuderia’s target remains the battle for championship victory, despite its far-from-best start to the 2023 season.
Last year the team from Maranello was unstable, and although they had the advantage in the first races of that season, they lost ground and we’ve talked about the reasons for this more than once. Although Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen had a clear advantage, Charles Leclerc finished second in the drivers’ standings at the end of the championship and Ferrari moved up to second in the constructors’ championship for the first time since 2019.
It is not surprising that all this cheered the fans, but this spring they were disappointed. After the first three stages of the season, the Scuderia is only 4th in the team standings and not only traditional rivals are ahead, ie Red Bull and Mercedes, but also Aston Martin.
Nevertheless, speaking at a Ferrari shareholder meeting, speaking about the achievements and challenges, Elkann stressed that in Formula 1 the goals remain unchanged.
“With the launch of the 296 GTS and Purosangue, our range of internationally acclaimed products has become even more diverse and rich,” said Ferrari President. “This gives us a record number of orders until 2024.
When we talk about Formula 1, in 2022 we have succeeded in increasing competitiveness. However, our goal remains the same: to win the World Cup, and it always will be. Frédéric Vasseur and the whole team are fully focused on achieving this.”
